Water Filter Project

Contact now

Cambodia is not a water scarce country, with most people generally able to find water from pond or river near their home. However, every year hundreds of Cambodian people, mainly children under the age of five years old, die from diarrhoea and other diseases which are caused by drinking unsafe water sourced from local waterholes.

CBAVC have provided a solution which is the household Bio-Sand Filter and Water Filter. The filters are made using locally available materials. Unfiltered water is poured into the top of the filter, flowing through the bio-layer of sand and rock. These all work together using a natural process to remove protozoa, bacteria, and worms. Water will pour from the spout with majority of contaminants removed therefore improving the taste and appearance of water, and contributing towards improving health. We think that’s a pretty good idea. We have currently provided over 150 filters for the rural families of Cambodia.

Fund a Bio-Sand Filter $85
          Fund a Water Filter $25

Each family also attends training on safe water storage, plus each family contributes $7 for their own filter as a means of demonstrating ownership. We visit every home two months after installation, this helps to ensure that people are getting the maximum benefit from the filters. Our monitoring has found that over 95% of the people are continuing to use the filters.

Each filter provides water for a family, on average 6 people. Our goal is to provide 500 families with water filters by 2017 to 2018.

CBAVC would like to thank you for your continued support in improving access to safe drinking water and generally changing the lives of individuals in the rural areas of Cambodia.
